I’ve decided to start consolidating my websites, in hopes of having some more up to date content and some things that are a little more worth while. Hopefully within the next month davelook.com and mindofayeti.com will be updated and re-launched.

Sunday afternoon grillfest

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Well its been a while since we’ve had a grillfest, and its still a little cold to grill outside. But we decided to do some some indoor meat cooking… Sarah had left us a very nice roast before she left for New Zealand, and we decided to think of her and her vegetarian diet and eat it today. The pictures are below, and please note the chard microwave from the small fire that was created by the TWIST TIE that we didn’t see before the defrosting of the roast, yeah, good times!

Pheasant Hunting

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Pheasants

Well, despite being sick for the last few days I decided to take the chance to go huting with my Dad, my Father-in-Law and a good family friend today.  We ended up having an awesome hunt.  We released 8 roosters and ended up getting 11.  Nika is mostly to thank for that!  We then had some of Steve-o’s pheasant stir fry.

RCN has defeated ATT

Friday, January 9th, 2009

So here’s the story.  (Remember my other little customer service issue..)  On December 31st, I called ATT spent 40 minutes on the phone to get my phone line / dsl canceled and replaced with DSL only.  This was a pleasant call, other than the length, the person I spoke with was great and I even left a message for her supervisor saying it was excellent service.  That said, she GUARANTEED me that on January 8th my service would be disconnected and the new service connected, and that because there had been service on the line that there would be NO issues with this switch.

On January 8th my service was disconnected as promised.  On January 8th my new service was connected…sure.  Did not work in the morning, did not work in the evening.  So around 6:30 I called ATT and explained the situation.  I was told that this was normal and that by 8PM the line would be ‘flushed’ and that the service would start working.  I waited until 9PM to call back at which time a Trouble Ticket was entered and I was told that I would receive a call the next day, today January 9, from an automated system.  AND that if I didn’t I would have to call back again.

So I recieved my automated call and was told that a technician needed to speak with me ASAP.  So I called, and all of the diagnostics were run AGAIN!  All leading to them telling me that they would have to send someone out to fix the issue, the soonest someone would be available would be January 13th between the hours of 8AM and 8PM.  COME ON!

So I called RCN and said when can you have service installed, took me less than 30 seconds to get a real person (which is NICE), and they told me that they would have the service installed between 11am and 2pm tomorrow January 10th.  SOLD, DONE!

Called ATT and canceled the service, which surprisingly only took me 25 minutes.

Now I’m looking forward to dealing with the billing department, because I’m not paying for any service that I did not receive.

Ah what a good day!

PS:  The service from RCN will be twice as fast and $5 cheaper

Fresh Powder or Chicago?

snow report breck

After reading this somewhat funny, scary, and disturbing article earlier today “Vail Chairlift Accident Leaves Man Pantless” , I have been thinking about skiing / snowboarding.  So I took a minute to look up the snow report for Breck.  That was a horrible idea….  15 INCHES of FRESH POWDER!!!  AHH  and I’m here in good old Chicago.  Oh and just to rub it in they have a note on the page that says this year has had more snow than any of the last 8 years, yeah nice!  Either way, wish I could head out there for a weekend.  I found a couple of images from my last trip out with Bo and Steve-o.

[WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT] - NWU Squirrels are ‘nuts’

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Well, the picture pretty much explains itself.  Chris, Jon (two collegues of mine), and I were walking over to Chipotle for lunch, and as we were walking we came accross what seems like a good plot for an Alfred Hitchcock movie, a squirrel feeding on another squirrel.  We then discovered two more dead squirrels on the walk back to the office.  Not sure why, but guessing that the -5 degrees / -30 wind-chill had something to do with it.
